Nissan develops self healing iPhone skin

Nissan is developing a self-healing iPhone skin using their own paint technology known as Scratch Shield.

Nissan has been the pioneer in this revolutionary paint technology and they have been using it since 2005 on several of their cars including Infiniti car models. The technology used on this iPhone case, a lightweight ABS plastic, is the result of the collaborative efforts between the University of Tokyo and Advanced Soft Materials INC. It consists of an “outer paint” made from polyrotaxane. If there is damage to the coating, the chemical structure of this substance reacts so that the affected place goes back to its original condition. The ‘fine gap’ created by the scratch is filled. In the words of Nissan, “the blemish is healed” by this technology.

It was in Dubai that Nissan launched this case. But, the company decided to do soft-launching of this product and they wanted customers and journalists to beta test the product. Once they find feedback is satisfactory and there is a demand for the product, they are planning to mass-produce the smart phone cases by end of the year.

It’s not too late to winterize your car!

Mother Nature has been treating us well so far. But most of us know, that’s probably short lived. So, it’s not too late to be prepared for the snow and ice.

Get your scrapers and snow brush ready. Last year, the brush side of the scraper was put to as much use as the scraper side! Don’t get caught at the office during the first snow and realize you don’t have your scraper.

Check your tire pressure. Your tires should be properly inflated to ensure you’ll have the best possible traction when driving. Often when the weather cools, your tire pressure drops and you may see your Tire Pressure light come on on your console, so now is a good time to check it. Refer to your owners manual for the preferred pressure.

Consider snow tires. You may be driving one of the many fine cars sold at Carousel, that handle the winter ice and snow very well. However, tires do wear, and you should check the tread before winter is upon us. Some people prefer snow tires specifically, and although it’s not required, they can help you manage the winter roads.

Check wiper blades and washer fluid. When the car in front of you is throwing up slush and ice, you’ve got to have properly working blades and plenty of fluid to get you through the season. Now is an easy time to check your blades.

Make sure you have routine service and maintenance scheduled. It’s smart to go into winter with all the proper fluids and a fresh oil change. A single mom, who recently had to take unpaid medical leave, is struggling to make ends meet for herself and her two children. Facing disconnection of her water, she came to The Crisis Center on Monday hoping for assistance. She waited in line with another family whose unexpected car repairs meant their electricity bill was overdue and a disabled man living on a limited income who was worried about losing his housing.

Apple’s new iPhone 4GS features personal assistant technology they’ve named “Siri”. Siri can do a number of commands prompted by your voice, such as, texting, emailing, giving directions, calendar scheduling, reminders, and so much more. It’s currently in a beta testing phase, with a few glitches, but overall, she’s gained quite the buzz and a large fan base.

When tested with Bluetooth technology found in most Nissan’s, Siri works perfectly. Imagine telling your car (or phone) to set up appointments, remind you of appointments, and text while driving – all hands free. Your car (coupled with your phone), is your new personal assistant. As if driving a Nissan wasn’t a joy already!
